Blue Protocol mobile game is under development by Tencent in partnership with Bandai Namco

Tencent Games back to business!

Tencent has discussed the possibilities of developing a mobile game adaption of the hit anime game Blue Protocol. The Blue Protocol project will see Tencent partner with Bandai Namco. As of now, Tencent Games has already secured the official rights to develop and publish Bandai Namco’s Blue Protocol on mobile.

Tencent plans to make Blue Protocol Mobile as successful as its other titles

With the developers now securing the gaming rights they would surely be hoping for the game to become as successful as some of their other gaming titles, like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile. Some people believe that Tencent would be looking forward to developing the game on the same levels as their hit titles and will be giving it priority to make it succeed in the market.

While the news of the release date has not been confirmed, it can be expected for the game to be released after a year. Whether Blue Protocol Mobile will support cross-play or not or, if this will be a standalone title, is still under wraps. GamingonPhone has reached out to Tencent Games for comments and will update the article as and when there is an official response.

For those who might know, Blue Protocol is a quite famous multiplayer title that can be titled as one of the successful multiplayer titles from Bandai Namco. The game in its first week of operation managed to attract 600,000 players making it one of the fastest launches in Bandai Namco’s history. The game was due to be released in the West and will take place next year across various platforms such as PCs and consoles.

Tencent aims to diversify its area of operations to mitigate risk and multiply revenue

Tencent has been on the move recently expanding its area of operation and with this move, it might solidify its position in Japan’s entertainment industry which in itself is a tough industry to penetrate into, given the high barriers of entry the industry has.

China’s $40 billion gaming market has shrunken recently given the economic and regulatory turmoils, due to which most companies including Tencent were unable to have a successful year, resulting in a stagnant performance.

Due to these factors, Tencent might be looking forward to diversifying its portfolio to mitigate the risks including legal and regulatory to hedge its future losses. This move includes this step of partnering with Bandai Namco to solidify them in the Japanese Market and potentially the rest of the world.
