Genshin Impact Lyney Guide: Materials, Weapons, Artifacts, Playstyle, and Team Comps

Everything you need to know about Lyney to bring him to the max potential!

Genshin Impact Version 4.0 debuts “Spectacle of Phantasmagoria” Lyney (pyro/bow), the first event-exclusive 5* character from Fontaine. He is a pretty decent on-field DPS who shines in a limited number of teams. This guide will explain everything about how to build him and play him in his best teams in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact Lyney Guide: Materials, Weapons, and, Artifacts

Materials

As a Pyro character, Lyney uses Agnidus Agate stones for ascension and they can be obtained from the Pyro Hypostasis and the Pyro Regisvine. His other ascension material, Emperor’s Resolution can be obtained from the new boss introduced in version 4.0, Emperor of Fire and Iron. The boss materials for his talents can be obtained from the Guardian of Apep’s Oasis weekly boss. Players can check this out for a detailed breakdown of Lyney’s materials

Weapons

The best choice for Lyney is his signature best-in-slot weapon The First Great Magic, while several other 5* bows are also good for him. His best free-to-play option is the craftable Prototype Crescent. Check out our article for a list of Lyney’s best weapons

Artifacts

Lyney needs around 150% ER to be sufficient. Luckily, his burst is not too important so there is no need to overthink his ER needs. For the goblet, there is very little difference between either option. As for the circlet, greater emphasis on CRIT DMG since he gains CRIT rate from ascensions.

The best artifact set for Lyney is the 4pc Marechaussee Hunter. Check out our guide for Lyney’s best artifact sets

Playstyle

Lyney shines in a Mono-Pyro team, paired with Bennett. His rotations are not very strict since they focus on getting as many charged shots as possible to reach the maximum number of stacks and using his skill to deal with massive amounts of Pyro DMG. Check out our guide for an in-depth explanation of Lyney’s playstyle.

Team Comps

As mentioned before, Lyney’s best team is Mono Pyro. He needs 2x Pyro teammates to gain a huge DMG bonus from one of his passives. The other slot can be filled by shield/healer/buffer. Check here for a detailed explanation of Lyney’s optimal teams.

Constellations

All of Lyney’s constellations aim to increase his DMG. He is a fully functioning unit at C0, but C3 is a great stopping point. Players can check out this article for a detailed breakdown of Lyney’s constellations.

Final Thoughts

Lyney is the first character in Genshin Impact that is dedicated towards a mono elemental gameplay. Previously, Mono-Cryo with Kamisato Ayaka and Mono-Geo with Arataki Itto emerged as examples of mono-elemental teams. None of those characters had any mention in their kit regarding special synergy with their own element.

However, Lyney is the first character who gains a DMG bonus just by having more Pyro teammates. He also deals increased DMG to enemies affected by Pyro, which further solidifies a Mono-Pyro gameplay. We can hope Lyney opens the door to future mono-elemental teams.
